◆Words already memorized are progressively removed from the card deck, so users can concentrate on just the words that challenge them, making for a more efficient approach to learning.

Study methods and functions
◇ “MyDeck” allows users to view the cards over and over, so they can take their time learning.
・The words can be studied by working from English to Japanese, or vice-versa.
・Learners can listen to natural pronunciations by native speakers of Japanese.
・Fun illustrations help users to better retain the words studied.
・Each card also includes an example sentence with an English translation and a recording of its pronunciation.

◇ “Check” helps learners to track their mastery.
・Users check their understanding of the vocabulary studied and sort the words into those mastered and those not yet retained.
・Retention can be checked by going from English to Japanese, or vice-versa.
・The cards of words already mastered are taken out of the set, leaving behind just those that still need to be worked on.

◇ “List” displays a list of all words covered by the app so that users can see their progress and review the vocabulary.
・Checkmarks are automatically placed next to words that have been mastered.
・The word cards can be displayed from the list entries, enabling quick review.

Pros and cons of GENKI Vocab Cards for 2nd Ed. app for iPhone and iPad

GENKI Vocab Cards for 2nd Ed. app good for

Good program to go with the Genki books. An iPad app would be nice.
It has the vocabulary of both Genki books. Works by the three stack system. You can also listen each word and in an example sentence, too - an excellent feature! It was made by people who really thought of the aspects of vocabulary learning. It has also lists of the vocabulary and you can retrieve a word back into the learning list, if youve forgotten it in the meantime. Ive never saw a more thought about and complete vocabulary learning app!
A very helpful app for those who study Japanese using Genki as textbook. Or for anyone whos studying Japanese. It provides sound how to pronounce each given word, plus how to use it in a sentence; both in kanji and furigana. The way I see it, in a way, it helps us to memorize given term faster. And, oh the interface is great too. One thing thats missing is a menu to practise writing skill, but its still great :)
To whom which need to improve their nihongo even for beginner The most interesting from this apps is it have a tools like how to pronounce the words For the best result, i advice you to have a Genki textbook 1st and 2nd so you can learn both, textbook and this apps.
It is a nice application to study and practice Japanese language.Anytime, anywhere,it can be used.I am very fond of this because I dont need to hold onto heavy textbook to study vocabulary .Unlike the textbook,I can learn the pronunciation here.Really thanks a lot to those who initiate this application .
Its a very useful application especial for those who wants to study Japanese language. You can study words/vocabulary at your own pace and it is used in a sentence thus it facilitate better understanding.

Some bad moments

Warning to all: This app is crap. Its a total waste of money! This is the worst set of flash cards Ive ever come across. I usually dont buy apps without first trying a demo. But I trusted Japan Times and downloaded it anyways. That was a mistake! Do not download this app. There are much better apps than this useless app. Too bad there isnt a 0-star rating.
I bought this app thinking I could get some use out of it. But it turns out its just a clunky bad version of Memrise. If you want to learn genki vocabulary easily Memrise is the way to go.
Pros: Very nice layout, good for studying the vocab of both books. Can see what words you need to study still in one place. Nice to have the same pictures as the drill card CD. Nice to have an example sentence. Cons: cant check a word as "known" during the card view phase to quickly get it out of view. No random word studying. (No shuffling the card order) Needs: someway to test conjugating at least the basic conjugations. And (a dream) have it be timed somehow like Anki does it. All in all: I was excited to see Genki finally make an app, hopefully they will continue and make one for grammar or listening. But this is a really good start. Definitely worth the price.
This app is great for students using Genki. I used to input 50 vocabulary words per chapter to another flashcard application, but with this app, I save tons of time. The app is visually appealing and I like how the vocabulary is divided into sections so I can devote my attention to a handful of words as opposed to the whole list. However, this app lacks a shuffle feature to rearrange the cards in the deck. Random order eliminates expectations of words so you learn based solely on the translation and not because that one word was first in the list. If it had a shuffle feature, I would rate this app 5 stars.
Although the vendor says that the app is “optimized” for iPhone, it clearly indicates that the app is “compatible with” iPad as well. It is not.
First the person the rated down cause no iPad support is wrong. Its optimized for iPhone but works on iPad just like it says. Its just not scaled up for iPad (yet) That being said the program is great but missing 1 very key feature which is spaced repetition. Sadly all the audio files, sentences, pictures and vocab in the world wont make this a useable app till they add spaced repetition. Save yourself the Money for now and check back often for spaced repetition addition. Tip to developers: vocabulary apps are useless without spaced repetition option.
